Wally Schirra

That's affirmative. I just used the moon to lock on. I will give you a short report. I'm just going to go on the ASCS . . . if you watch my thrusters.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger.

Wally Schirra

I will go on ASCS; reentry attitude.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger. You're on now according to us.

Wally Schirra

Roger. I'm just about going in. I'm not on it. Ha. Ha.

Wally Schirra

Okay. I'm going in it now, on gyros free. I'm going to go to gyros normal.

Wally Schirra

Okay, Gene. I'll give you a readout on what we've got up here.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Okay.

Wally Schirra

First off, I'm in auto reentry; I'm in auto; gyros are normal; maneuver is off; all configuration is of reentry; bypass switch for rate gyros is in normal. Give you a fuel readout, the auto tank is 90 (percent), manual is about 90 (percent). Give you a read on the suit which has been very comfortable now. The suit temperature is 60 (degrees). My dome is down to 45 (degrees). I'm going to back it off a half a notch. I'll go to 0 and then come back up again. Over.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Okay, Wally. Stand by.

Flight Surgeon

Sigma Seven. How about blood pressure?

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger. John Glenn suggests that you have time when the numerous particles first appear, at sunrise, to tap the side of the capsule, and test his favorite theory.

Wally Schirra

Roger. I have done that Gene, and they do come from the capsule.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger. And he suggests later on, when they appear like white particles, that you do the same and this might prove that they are the same particles.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

You got the same result?

Wally Schirra

That's affirmative.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Sigma Seven. If you're not doing anything, can you give us an attitude readout.

Wally Schirra

Okay. My indicated attitudes are 0 degrees pitch, 10 degrees left yaw, 0 degrees roll. Over.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

We concur. Very good.

Wally Schirra

Roger. How do the scanners look?

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Within 4 degrees, Wally. They are consistent, also.

Wally Schirra

Roger. I think I got the bear lined up pretty well, then.

Gene Duret (CAPCOM)

Roger. Everything looks very good here. You sound very good, and it looks like go for 6. I think from here I'll just ask the doctor in.

Flight Surgeon

How do you feel?

Wally Schirra

Very good. I'm enjoying the ride very much.
